SAllY GREEN is an Australian abstract textural artist based near Byron Bay on Bundjalung country. Her artistic path spans a rich lineage of creative disciplines - from her early career as an airbrush artist to twenty years spent blowing glass - culminating in her current full-time practice as a painter. Driven by an innate necessity to create that began the moment she first held a paintbrush, Sally produces emotionally expressive works that capture the raw vitality and rich colour palette of the Australian landscape.
Working primarily on canvas and wood, Sally’s process is intuitive and deeply aligned with nature. Her compositions evolve spontaneously straight from source and are highly textural and although abstract in design, viewers may interpret aerial landscapes. She creates using a rich tapestry of mediums including acrylics, inks, found objects, and raw materials gathered from the land around her - such as local sand, rocks, and handmade pigments.

Creative Process
My work emulates the natural forces of erosion and tidal patterns that shape the Earth. Using natural materials such as lime and marble dust, I build textured surfaces that recall mountain ranges, stone outcrops, and cracked earth. Into these surfaces, I layer pigments, inks, and stains, then spray the pieces with water—mimicking rain—before allowing them to dry, either slowly in the air or through the intense heat of a blowtorch imitating the baking sun or fires.
Additional layers of pure pigments blown over the work, or applied in liquid form, evoke the dusts and waters that carve and transform the land over time. The process is patient, echoing the deep time of geology: days, nights, months, years pass as sediment-like washes of color accumulate, erode, and rebuild across the surface.
For Sally art is cathartic. A form of transmutation of emotions into form. Time is completely lost as she enters a kind of meditative state as she releases parts of her psyche in this alchemical process.
For her creating art is a process of inner transformation, and somehow she emerges from painting into a higher state of being.
